The only casino I’ll be playing any time soon will be the Borgata in Atlantic City next month. They have the highest payouts in Atlantic City. I’ll dig a little more into the NJ gaming commission reports to see which denominations actually pay out the best. Of course I’ll post my findings here.

Super Bowl Prop bets..pray for the best!

Karlos had 8 tackles in the first 2 playoff games and only 5 against the Eagles. The Eagles don’t run, so the LB made less tackles. Since the Steelers will run, I’m expecting an easy cover here.

Ben Graham is a toss up to play, but I love this pick. He’s only had one touch back all year. If he’s hurt and plays I don’t see him out kicking his coverage.

Super Bowl picks are in!

I was holding off on making my picks but noticed that the spread on the game went to the Steelers – 6.5. 6.5 was my trigger and I pulled it and parlayed with the under which is 46.5.

Why did I choose the Steelers?

I’ve liked the Steelers for since they beat the Ravens. I’ve been reading and watching and listening for a reason to not bet on the Steelers. Nothing swayed me. Still I held out. I’ve been been waiting for the past 12 days for the line to move the half point from 7 and it finally did. The reason I wanted the extra half point is that I didn’t want a push with a 7 point win. I want to win.

Why did I choose the Under?

A major reason for choosing the Steelers is their defense. If the Steelers win I think the winning score will be an average score in the low to mid 20’s. Combined with a 6.5 spread I will win my parlay.

Are Fantasy Games Gambling?

ESPN‘s Streak for the Cash is a fantasy sports game with great prizes. I don’t think this is really gambling because there is no wagering involved. However, the action allows for a similar rush because of the cash prizes. For someone like me that enjoys sports betting this is just another outlet with no risk. You can only have one pick going at a time which makes pick choices very key in this game.

The prizes help define the object of the game. The prizes are:

GRAND PRIZE: $1,000,000 dollars to the first entry to build a streak of 27 wins in a row.
2ND PRIZE: $10,000 dollars to the entry with the longest streak at the end of the contest period (which was not the Grand Prize entrant).
MONTHLY PRIZE (4): $2,500 per month to the entry with the most wins.

The first grand prize was won in December. $1,000,000 makes for a nice holiday gift. Since then they raised the streak for the million dollar prize to 27 correct picks in a row without a loss.

I enjoy that the selection is mostly games that I wouldn’t bet. I’ve found myself going back to this website often when I have free time to check if I can make another pick. As nice as the Grand Prize is, I’m not very concerned with how my picks do. I’m more concerned with making my next pick. That’s probably a gamblers rush, but I just want to move on to the next pick. I figure that the better my picks are the better my chance of getting any of the prizes. Bottom to top.

Caesars Palace Expansion on hold

I just got the official press release from Harrah’s with confirmation that Caesars Palace in Las Vegas has put a hold on the construction of Octavious Tower. Here’s the release in it’s entirety.

LAS VEGAS — Harrah’s Entertainment Inc. said it is delaying plans to open 665 new rooms at a sixth tower it has just built at Caesars Palace until there is stronger demand for hotel rooms.

The 23-story Octavius Tower was scheduled to open this summer as part of a $1 billion expansion at the casino resort.

Harrah’s said that other parts of the expansion will open on schedule, including 110,000 square feet of meeting space, an expanded pool and garden area, and three 10,000-square-foot luxury villas. Strong advance bookings warranted finishing the new meeting space, Harrah’s said.

With the economy in the middle of a recession and room occupancy low, there really isn’t a reason to go forward with completion at this point. It’s better than firing people. The addition is just about complete so if there’s a need to increase capacity, they’ll be able to move quickly.

Comp chasing…good idea or bad idea

I was looking around for some gambling news while watching halftime of the Eagles @ Cardinals game and came across this story in the Hartford (CT) Courant about a couple who saved their comps at Foxwoods in Connecticut. Unfortunately the husband passed away before the points were used and the widow was unable to use the rewards after he had passed on.

He accumulated a large number of points before becoming ill and soon after, he died. He liked to hoard his points, and at the end of his life had a total of 8500 points.

The casino agreed to transfer his points to my players card, however the maximum they would transfer was 5000. That, the powers that be told me was the maximum they would transfer.

First thought is that we all should wish the best for the widow. That aside, I do not operate this way. This is a good example of hording your comps. Things happen in life (or death in this case) and I would never want to lose a reward that I’ve earned. I don’t use comps as I get them, but I don’t save them for a rainy day either.

I pretty much have a “reward plan” for all rewards or comps I receive. For example, I will use my rewards to save on expenses that I can’t gain rewards on elsewhere. I get multiple times rewards for certain credit card spending I’ll usually use casino comps on things I can’t get rewarded for elsewhere. Additionally, I know how often I will be traveling in a given year and plan to use my rewards or miles for upgrades.
