I’m throwing in the towels on the Phillies 1,000-1 bet. They had a chance to make up ground the past two weekends and have only gone backwards.
Last weekend they lost 3 of 4 to the woeful Houston Astros. Had they won 3 of 4 they would have still been in the mix for a playoff spot. Still…there was a little life left after taking 3 in a row from the New York Mets. Unfortunately this weekend they lost 2 of 3 to the Atlanta Braves and fell 5 games behind the second Wild Card spot with 10 games to play. They also fell behind the Arizona Diamondbacks and are only 5-5 in their last 10 games.
The dream is over.
I lost $20 on a 1,000-1 shot and had a blast following the games for two weeks before throwing in the towel. The Phils still have a chance to win that Wild Card spot but I won’t hold my breath.
This was one of the most fun bets I’ve ever made. I don’t like betting futures because I don’t study enough to make tying my money up for so long worth it. However, these short term low risk and high reward futures bets seem like fun and I will probably do this again towards the end of the football season.

1000-1 on the Phillies.. you summed it up best, “This was one of the most fun bets I’ve ever made.” It’s like playing a 6-, 8-game sunday afternoon parlay, you win all your 1pm games and you’re like… OH MANNNNNNN. Similar to the lottery… I know I’m going to lose, but the 15-20minutes of day dreaming I get if I would get the jackpot is worth the 5 dollars. Nice play!
Thanks. It’s probably the most fun I could have for $20 at a casino. I rarely make these kind of bets, but it was well worth it. 🙂
