Want The Best People Watching In Vegas? Head To Encore

Las Vegas is great for people watching. There are fun, strange and interesting people everywhere from downtown Vegas to the Vegas strip. Recently my friends and I confirmed that our favorite people watching takes place at Encore.

One of my favorite nights playing blackjack happened a few years ago at Encore. Everybody at our table won, the cocktail waitresses were quick and that’s where we first noticed the fun of people watching at Encore.

While the focus of the Wynn/Encore complex is the Wynn casino I prefer Encore. Encore is smaller and quiet during the day while the nights are a little more action packed and more fun. Actually, both Wynn and Encore come to life when the clubs let out, but since the XS, Surrender and Tryst are all in Encore the fun begins there and dies out slightly with a walk through the Wynn Esplanade.

This is where the best people watching in Vegas happens. Whether you’re walking through the Wynn Esplanade between Wynn and Encore or just playing blackjack near the East Side Lounge at Encore you’re in for fun. A friend said that the best Las Vegas reality TV show would be watching the surveillance tape between XS and Wynn after 2am.

He may be right. Anyone want to make that?

No matter where you are people watching is at its best when people lose their inhibitions. This is the case by the time people are ready to leave the nightclubs. The condition of people leaving the clubs ranges from the designated driver to the friends that can’t walk to the heel rats walking barefoot through the dirty casino floor where its possible someone just vomited or peed a little.

The blackjack tables near the Eastside Lounge at Encore provide access to the best people watching in Vegas since it’s along the route to the cabs and parking garage at Encore. I have a short attention span and people watching serves as a nice secondary activity to playing blackjack. Sitting around watching people stumble around isn’t fun by itself.

Just be warned that, unless full, your blackjack table is likely to be infiltrated by people that don’t know how to play blackjack correctly. Dealers know this and deal slowly and offer help when appropriate. Thankfully, I don’t care. It all evens out in the end (see blackjack myths). If this bothers you, avoid this area at all costs.

Sure there are weirdo’s that are fun to watch all over but give me 3:2 blackjack and a variety of stumbling people late at night and you found me the best people watching in Las Vegas.

Michael Phelps Crushes Vegas With Party and Poker Win

Michael Phelps spent Labor Day Weekend in Las Vegas celebrating his retirement from the Olympics the way anyone should – by eating (cake), drinking and gambling.

His weekend started with a party at Encore Beach Club and Surrender Nightclub where he made jams with Afrojack, ate cake and partied.

Festivities began Friday night at Surrender Nightclub. Phelps was joined by Olympic gold medalist and training partner Allison Schmitt, and poker star Phil Hellmuth. He was given a hero’s welcome with deafening cheers from the packed house as he entered the DJ booth joining his friend, Dutch electronic dance music sensation Afrojack who was spinning his hits for the capacity crowd. Phelps fired off the nitro cannon into the crowd and then got on the mic and exclaimed “This is my first night of retirement at Surrender!” He then threw back a shot of chilled Grey Goose vodka with Afrojack kicking off the night of fun, frolic and great music.

The fun wasn’t confined to the clubs as he headed to the Caesars Palace poker room to take money from tourists looking to blow their loot with a 22 time olympic winner. TMZ reports he won $100,000.

TMZconfirmed early Sunday morning that Phelps walked into Caesar’s Palace Hotel & Casino and left with $100,000. When it comes to winning, the Olympic swimmer known for his great victories at the 2012 Olympics goes above and beyond.

Michael Phelps and his friends visited Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas and won $100,000 in a single poker game. After winning, Phelps spent a large portion of the cash at the Tryst nightclub in the Wynn.

Hey, if you’re going to “retire” what better way to go out than by winning money in a Vegas casino then spending it all on a good time with your friends.

Sounds like a good time to me. Someone call the clubs and let them know I plan on retiring in 30 years!

Vegas Loves Skrillex!

I can’t imagine that I’d know what or who Skrillex was if I wasn’t such a Vegas dork. But I am. Skrillex is a DJ and one of the hottest things in Vegas this side of Deadmau5. I like some dance music, but generally I’m a rock dude. You may know that from my trip to see Queens of the Stoneage last summer.

In fact, in a previous life I’ve met Skrillex. Back then his name was Sonny and he was a singer for the band From First To Last. My name was never different.

Skrillex has been nominated for a bunch of Grammy Awards and plays Vegas pretty often. Although I don’t get the appeal lots of people do as his club appearances are always packed. I saw this video the other day and figured it was a good excuse to pass it on as a bit of education.

Here’s a jam from Surrender at Encore. Now that you’ve seen and heard Skrillex, you can understand and enjoy this. Consider yourself educated.
