Caesars Readying New Sportsbook Brand And Sports Wagering App

Caesars Entertainment Chapter 11
Caesars Entertainment Chapter 11

I just received a survey from Caesars Entertainment about their plans for mobile sports wagering.

Actually Caesars’ plan is to rename and rebrand ALL of their sportsbook operations.

There’s no release date on the 2Bet Sportsbook app or website. In fact, the name may change if those answering the survey voted negatively on the name like I did.

Here’s the information on 2Bet Sportsbook the survey:

2Bet Sportsbook – a network of physical sportsbooks located in casinos, primarily on the Las Vegas Strip, as well as in other locations in Nevada such as Lake Tahoe, Reno, and Laughlin. At any 2Bet Sportsbook location, players may bet on sports and horeseracing, watch both on large high-definition screens, and enjoy food and beverage (including alcoholic beverages).

We will also be launching www.2betsportsbook.com, a mobile betting app where anyone 21 years and older who is located in Nevada can bet on sports directly from their mobile devices (e.g., smartphones and tablets). Customers will be able to wager on in-play events happening in real-time, such as betting the spread, moneyline, and over/under, which update throughout the game. Customers will also be able to bet on a variety of markets that currently do not exist such as “the highest scoring quarter,” “will an individual player exceed a certain number of points scored,” and “which team will score a certain number of points first”, all in real-time while games are in-progress.

Caesars is the latest casino operator who will be releasing a mobile sports wagering option. MGM Resorts, Wynn, Westgate and others have app releases planned for later this year. You can find information on this on Vegas Chatter.

Details are sure to follow.

Minor Update: It looks as though Caesars is testing the name “The Spread” as well. I like that better. Hat Tip to @JHook9.

Minor Update #2: It looks as though Caesars is also testing the name “WSOP Sportsbook”. Hat Tip to @KirkSports.

You Have To Love The “Month Of Honor” Promotion At Station Casinos

Medal of Honor Poker Table at Station Casinos Las Vegas
Medal of Honor Poker Table at Station Casinos

When I first moved to Las Vegas I had a choice of 3 casinos to call home. Red Rock Resort, Suncoast and Rampart are all within the length of a song of where I live. I chose Red Rock for a few reasons (there’s an old blog post on it somewhere) but you probably know one of the major reasons is because the sportsbook bar is almost like my local bar.

Station Casinos has also been involved with the community in a very public way since I moved here. In the past they’ve offered veterans free buffets and have donated to the Susan G. Komen “Race for the Cure” fund. Sure these are marketing ploys to get people in the door but they’re offering real value to the community.

This kind of philanthropy is almost as endearing as their 9/6 Jacks or Better video poker. I feel a little less awful when I lose money with Station Casinos. Just a little.

The “Month of Honor” promotion with Veterans Village is a huge expansion on the offers they’ve given to military persons in the past. Instead of trying to paraphrase the information I’ll offer the details in the HUGE press release:

LAS VEGAS (April 27, 2015)- Station Casinos will launch a month-long fundraising effort to raise awareness and funds for homeless veterans and their families who reside at Veterans Village located in Downtown Las Vegas. Proceeds raised throughout May will benefit Southern Nevada’s only 24/7 crisis intervention and housing facility that cares for our local homeless veterans and their families. From May 1-31, all 19 Station Casinos properties and venues including the cafes, casino bars, bingo rooms, spas and gaming areas including designated slot machines, designated blackjack and poker tables will be themed patriotic to signify where the Company will donate a portion of its proceeds and gaming winnings.

Westgate SuperBook Should Have Mobile Wagering Soon

LVH SuperBook - Las Vegas Hotel
LVH SuperBook

On the latest episode of the “Behind The Betspodcast (download at itunes) Jeff Sherman from the Westgate SuperBook mentioned that the sportsbook is working on mobile wagering and hopes to have it ready by end of the year.

I listen to podcasts on 2x speed so I had to rewind the podcast to make sure that I heard it correctly. I tweeted looking for confirmation and I received it from Jeff (@golfodds) shortly thereafter.

@MeltzVegas @LVSuperBook correct

It’s only a matter of time before every sportsbook operator in Nevada offers wagering via mobile device. Last year I hinted that MGM would offer mobile wagering soon and that was confirmed earlier this year in an article I wrote for Vegas Chatter.

Westgate having mobile wagering will certainly help their bottom line and will offer the best odds to more bettors (like me) but it won’t be a game changer. They’re still only a single casino and as @John_Mehaffey states it will take a lot more coverage to reach as many people as the larger sportsbook operators.

That being said this is still an exciting moment for sports bettors. I rarely visit the Westgate so this gives me a chance to wager with their lines without driving out to the other side of the Vegas Strip. This gives everyone an opportunity to wager with the best odds without visiting the Westgate.

The Westgate is undergoing a lot of renovations (see 5 at Vegas.buzz) and the sportsbook renovation should be finished by football season. I actually look forward to my next visit to the Westgate – that’s something I’ve never said before (even when it was LVH or the Hilton).

March Madness Opening Lines From William Hill

March Madness at Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas

William Hill just released their opening point spreads for the first round of the NCAA Basketball Tournament aka March Madness. These are already adjusted from some openers released online and in other Vegas sportsbooks (CG Technology was first to release in Vegas).

Expect these lines to move again – some before the night is over. Enjoy!

Record Breaking Year For Sports Betting In Nevada!

The Mirage Las Vegas Sportsbook
The Mirage Sportsbook

I’m a sports bettor and try to keep up on how the legal sports betting industry is doing in Vegas (and all of Nevada). When sportsbooks win that means people are losing. I’d much prefer sports bettors win so I’m conflicted about good revenue reports for casinos.

With that being said, I feel conflicted to see that last year was a record year for sports betting with almost $4 billion was wagered on sports throughout Nevada.

Record amounts of money being wagered it great for the sportsbook operators but it doesn’t tell the whole picture. Sports betting is still a very small, but growing, piece of gaming revenue in Vegas casinos.

Sportsbook As Percentage of Revenue for Big Vegas Casinos (Source: UNLV Gaming).

  • 2014: 1.3%
  • 2013: 0.9%
  • 2012: 1%

Sports betting generates a slightly larger percentage of revenue in Downtown Vegas Casinos (Source: UNLV Gaming).

  • 2014: 2.2%

Casino revenue reports include outside operators like William Hill and CG Technology.

Revenue from sports betting has been helped by increased sports betting menus and mainstream acceptance. There was a day when you’d never hear mainstream media mention point spreads or other betting options. That’s no longer the case.

Sports betting revenue is on the upswing and it will be interesting to see how casinos in Vegas adopt. There’s a limit to how much money sports bettors and fans will spend on parties for major events like the Super Bowl (list of parties/prices).

Then again, maybe there isn’t a limit and revenue from these parties is what will keep sports betting alive for casino operators.

Best Video Poker At Green Valley Ranch

Royal Flush Video Poker at Red Rock Resort
Royal Flush!

Before I stay at a casino for the first time I always check the video poker pay tables. I usually take trips like this by myself so I end up playing a lot of video poker.

This weeks new adventure has me staying at Green Valley Ranch for the first time thanks to a MyVegas comp. According to vpFREE there is a great selection of good video poker at Green Valley Ranch. Check it out:

Best Green Valley Ranch Las Vegas Video Poker Games

I’m usually happy playing 9/6 Jacks or Better or 8/5 Bonus Poker but I think I’ll change it up a little for this trip. I think I’ll take a stab at the 100%+ returns for a change. There are 4 different games on 15 machines so they should be somewhat easy to get on.

I’ll probably dabble in the 10/7 Double Bonus Poker game since the strategy isn’t too difficult. The worst case scenario (and it’s not bad at all) is that I sit at the sportsbook bar playing 8/5 Bonus Poker. Oh, the horror.

Best Video Poker At SLS Las Vegas

Royal Flush Video Poker at Red Rock Resort
Royal Flush!

It’s been a while since I did a video poker check but since SLS Las Vegas is new and is supposed to have good video poker games I figured that I’d take a look.

On first glance there are some really good video poker options available at SLS Las Vegas according to vpFREE2.

Best Video Poker At SLS Las Vegas

When you look deeper into the pay tables you’ll see that most of the best video poker games at SLS Las Vegas are available on just 4 video poker machines. The best 8 video poker games are only available on these 4 low limits video poker machines (5¢, 10¢, 25¢) located between Sayers Club and Sportsbook Bar along the aisle.

Bonus Poker and the games below it on the chart above are available throughout the casino. You can see specific locations and denominations on vpFREE2.com.

I’m personally happy that there is 8/5 Bonus Poker available. That’s my second favorite video poker game. I don’t mind that the single games are $1 and up or that the 3-play games are 25¢ but it would be nice if they had some one line quarter games available.

Overall SLS Las Vegas has a good selection of video poker for the Vegas Strip but it isn’t better than many Downtown Vegas or Off-Strip casinos.

More on SLS Las Vegas and locals later this week or early next week.

Who Is The MGM Grand Sportsbook?

MGM Grand Sportsbook Sports Jeopardy On Crackle
Sports Jeopardy

Sports Jeopardy debuted this morning on Crackle. The MGM Grand sportsbook was the question to one of the answers in the Where To Watch The Game category in the first segment. The inclusion of a sportsbook on the first episode is a nice nod to sports gamblers who are likely fans of Dan Patrick and will watch the show.

The show itself is cool as far as sports trivia shows goes but there’s way too many commercials for my attention span. I counted about 4 minutes combined before and after the first segment alone. That’s way too much for a show I’m watching on an iPad. I’d rather they integrated the advertising into the show like Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee.

Anyway, here’s a preview of the show. You can download the crackle app for free if you want to watch.

Blondies At Planet Hollywood Is Still A Great Bar For NFL Games

Blondies at Planet Hollywood Las Vegas
Blondies at Planet Hollywood

There are a lot of great places to watch NFL games in Vegas today. It wasn’t always that way and it feels like forever since I first started going to Blondies at Planet Hollywood to watch NFL games on a Sunday. Blondies is tucked away in the back of the Miracle Mile Shops and even though it’s always packed for NFL games it seems as if people still don’t know that it exists.

Blondies is an old school sports bar with booze, food, beer pong and lots of TV’s. Blondies isn’t a sportsbook so you’ll have walk about 2 minutes into the Planet Hollywood casino to make a bet if you don’t have an app on your mobile phone.

Blondies has become so popular in the past couple of years that they’ve started charging table minimums for watching games on busy days (like NFL Sunday). You can reserve a table for however many you want for the different time frames of games. There are different costs for different events.

We had to make a $100 deposit to reserve for a table for 4 people to watch the 10am games. The $100 deposit would come off of our bill. Four people eating and drinking $100 over a 3 hour period isn’t much of a challenge so the table minimum isn’t a big deal.

Having a guaranteed seat to watch all of the games with food and drink service is much more appealing to me than waking up early and squatting at a sports book.

The food is fine but not great. The waitress service is on point and there are lots of football fans wearing jersey’s and cheering for their favorite teams. Most importantly there more TV’s than may be necessary. There are so many TV’s that they have extras to show stuff like international soccer while football is going on. The ability to reserve a table might be the best feature.

Watching the games at Blondies almost feels like you’re not on the Vegas Strip. There’s a hometown bar feel. You might notice flags for all Philadelphia teams to the left in the picture. If you’re looking for a sports bar where you can guarantee your seat so you can eat and drink while your watch the games after you place your bets Blondies is a great option.

2nd Umami Burger Was Even Better Than The First

Lunch At Umami Burger At SLS Las Vegas
Lunch At Umami Burger

If you follow me on twitter or facebook you know that I had lunch at Umami Burger at SLS Las Vegas the other day. This was my second visit to Umami Burger. My first visit was on the first day SLS Las Vegas was open. While I really liked the first burger and fries I wasn’t paying close attention to the food. I was busy drinking, chatting, playing video poker and just looking around. This time around I was alone and more focused on my burger than checking out the new restaurant/sportsbook/beer garden.

On my first visit I split half of the Manly Burger and really enjoyed it although I thought it was almost too flavorful. The beef flavor was almost overpowered by the beer-cheddar cheese, bacon lardo and smoked salt (fried) onion strips. Not to mention a mustard spread and house ketchup on the side.

A wise man recommended that I try one of the truffle burgers. I went into lunch with this and mind but was in the mood for bacon. None of the truffle burgers on the Umami Burger menu have bacon so I went back to the Manly Burger you see in the picture above. I added the off the menu cheesy tater tots for $5. Before diving into the burger I just want to say that you should ALWAYS ORDER THE TATER TOTS.

This Manly Burger tasted a bit more mellow than my first one. This time the ingredients we much more in balance than the first burger. If we were running this burger through a photo editor the beef flavor was enhanced, the cheese was dialed down and the bacon and onion rings provided a perfect accent. The flavors of the burger and toppings were in perfect harmony. I had a Rogue Dead Guy ale which complimented all of the flavors perfectly.

Looking back at both burgers I think that the sharpness of cheddar cheese is what was a little shocking on the first burger. Keep that in mind if you have a gentle tongue. The burger with less cheese spread really tasted much more like a burger. Call me crazy but when I order a burger I want to taste the burger.

Video Poker at Umami Burger Straight Flush
Thanks for lunch Umami Burger!

I ate at the bar because I wanted to play a little video poker and have a couple of beers. The restaurant side of the bar only had the 3 play machines (the casino side has a few 1 line games). While waiting for my burger to arrive I snagged this sweet straight flush. The straight flush covered my lunch bill which was under $20 ($13 burger, $5 tots) and gave me a couple more dollars to spend on my next visit.

As I mentioned in my full overview of the Umami Burger restaurant/sportsbook at Vegas Chatter playing video poker while you eat allows you complimentary drinks. Not only did I make a few bucks with the straight flush but I had a couple “free” $9 beers.

It’s a nice touch that the bar on the restaurant side has more bar space to eat in front of the video poker machines. It makes eating easier than on the casino side although the video poker is a bit far.

I find it hard to choose a best of any food category but the burgers at Umami Burger are definitely among the best on the Vegas Strip. The service at the bar is great and I really like the sportsbook/sports bar setup. Umami Burger has definitely become one of my new hangouts on Vegas Strip.
