Lunching Outside At Bagatelle Beach

Bagatelle Beach Club At Tropicana Las Vegas
Bagatelle Beach Club

Eating and drinking outside? I’m in!

A couple of weeks ago I was invited to have lunch at the new Bagatelle Beach at Tropicana. This was the soft opening and a great way to kick off Cinco De Mayo weekend before losing every bet I made on the Kentucky Derby. Since this was the soft opening I was among the first guests.

Comparing Bagatelle Beach to Encore Beach Club is only fair in that they’re the same concept but there’s nothing at Tropicana that’s done on the same level as Wynn so it’s really not a fair comparison. Besides I was at Bagatelle Beach for lunch outside and not to scope out bikini babes. Note: Every person serving lunch was a dude, the bikini waitresses seem like they are only for pool customers.

Bagatelle Beach is set up with separate areas for people who want to party at the pool and people who just want to grab lunch. There dining tables set up in a shaded are that are fairly secluded and above the action of the beach club. There are also a few booths closer to the pools with coverings providing shade as you can see below.

Le Diablo - Bagatelle Beach Tropicana Las Vegas

Lunch began with a cocktail called Le Diablo. I don’t normally drink tequila but I usually enjoy a drink with fresh berries and ginger beer so I figured I’d give it a whirl. Since I was so early the fresh blueberries hadn’t arrived so they used strawberry instead. Both drinks were tasty but the original concept of the drink was much better. I always recommend sticking with blueberries when they’re part of the recipe. Additionally, ginger beer is probably my favorite mixer for cocktails.

Lunch - Bagatelle Beach Tropicana Las Vegas

For lunch I had a chicken and turkey club on a croissant. The sandwich was good but nothing particularly special.  At $12 (maybe $14) this was priced similarly to most restaurant sandwiches on the strip. Combined with the al fresco dining and drinks this made for a fine base of food for the day. I wouldn’t be upset eating this sandwich again but I wouldn’t go out of my way for it.

Iced Coffee - Bagatelle Beach Tropicana Las Vegas

Since I had to drive after lunch I took it easy on the tasty boozy drinks and imbibed a few cups of iced coffee. I don’t look at a day/beach club as the kind of place that many people are ordering iced coffee so I was pleasantly surprised they had it available. While not the highlight of the day it was a nice way to close it.

Booth View - Bagatelle Beach Tropicana Las Vegas

I saw some friends dining out in the booths as I was winding down my lunch so I grabbed this sweet view of the entire Bagatelle Beach complex which comes complete with Hooters in the background.

Bagatelle Beach isn’t for everyone. The music is very loud since this is a day club and the DJ mix is today’s EDM (Deadmau5Calvin Harris) and hip hop (Lil WayneDoctor Dre). I enjoyed the music and thought it added to the vibe but it’s not for everyone.

I only visit the Tropicana a couple of times a year or so and this may be one of the few times I visit during 2013. The Tropicana isn’t a hotel many people I know visit so there’s rarely an excuse to stop by. Actually, most people I know don’t even stay on the south end of the strip unless they have a conference at Mandalay Bay.

I would return to Bagatelle Beach if someone else wanted to go there for lunch but probably wouldn’t go out of my way to return. I’ve already recommend Bagatelle Beach to a couple of people as a place to dine outdoors on that end of the Vegas strip.

Lunch was paid for by Bagatelle Beach but my thoughts and pictures are my own.

Michael Phelps Crushes Vegas With Party and Poker Win

Michael Phelps spent Labor Day Weekend in Las Vegas celebrating his retirement from the Olympics the way anyone should – by eating (cake), drinking and gambling.

His weekend started with a party at Encore Beach Club and Surrender Nightclub where he made jams with Afrojack, ate cake and partied.

Festivities began Friday night at Surrender Nightclub. Phelps was joined by Olympic gold medalist and training partner Allison Schmitt, and poker star Phil Hellmuth. He was given a hero’s welcome with deafening cheers from the packed house as he entered the DJ booth joining his friend, Dutch electronic dance music sensation Afrojack who was spinning his hits for the capacity crowd. Phelps fired off the nitro cannon into the crowd and then got on the mic and exclaimed “This is my first night of retirement at Surrender!” He then threw back a shot of chilled Grey Goose vodka with Afrojack kicking off the night of fun, frolic and great music.

The fun wasn’t confined to the clubs as he headed to the Caesars Palace poker room to take money from tourists looking to blow their loot with a 22 time olympic winner. TMZ reports he won $100,000.

TMZconfirmed early Sunday morning that Phelps walked into Caesar’s Palace Hotel & Casino and left with $100,000. When it comes to winning, the Olympic swimmer known for his great victories at the 2012 Olympics goes above and beyond.

Michael Phelps and his friends visited Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas and won $100,000 in a single poker game. After winning, Phelps spent a large portion of the cash at the Tryst nightclub in the Wynn.

Hey, if you’re going to “retire” what better way to go out than by winning money in a Vegas casino then spending it all on a good time with your friends.

Sounds like a good time to me. Someone call the clubs and let them know I plan on retiring in 30 years!

The Gambler Goes To Bonnaroo

Last week the music scene in Vegas was all about the Electric Daisy Carnival. Besides wind closing the electronic music festival early one night everything seemed to go off fine and everyone seemed to have a good time.

In Tennessee, there was a similar gathering of hippies at Bonnaroo. The difference is that these hippies prefer their music with instruments. Both festivals had hundreds of thousands of people attend, but because I follow way too many Vegas folks I missed out on some of the action.

This morning I was reading some quick hits from Bonnaroo at DoYou Hear The Music and saw a really interesting collaboration between Phish and Kenny Rogers. This may not be as hip as Afrojack and David Guetta hitting the decks together at Encore Beach Club, but what is?

Phish and Kenny Rogers got together to play a song everyone that likes Vegas, Atlantic City and Sports loves – “The Gambler”. Enjoy the youtube video shot from the crowd…it sounds better than it looks!

If you need more Kenny Rogers music, go here.
If you need more Phish music, go here.
If you need your own copy of “The Gambler”, go here.

Pool Season Returns to Vegas!

Sara Underwood At Encore Beach Club Las Vegas

While other pool parties already started pool Season kicked into full gear this week with the opening of Encore Beach Club, Marquee Day Club and Rehab all opening. The day party business has been growing over the past couple years and it seems as if this may be the biggest year yet.

In the past I’ve always posted random F-List “celebrities” popping up in bikinis all over. It’s interesting to see who Vegas finds to be a good-looking celebrity. With Encore Beach Club and Marquee making these parties about music with some of the most famous DJ’s in the world there may be less F-Listers to learn about. We’ll keep an eye out.

This weeks bikini-clad celebrity is Sara Underwood, who is famous for being in Playboy according to wikipedia. If she looks familiar it’s because she’s appeared in a few movies as herself. Tiesto was also at Encore Beach Club. If you’re into Tiesto, he’s at one of the Wynn Las Vegas clubs every month.

Summer Never Ends In Las Vegas

In case you thought pool parties stopped in Las Vegas when the official end of summer (AKA Labor Day) passed, then you’re sadly wrong. The summer never ends in Las Vegas and Encore Beach Club brought out the “stars” this week with Stacy Keibler, Warren Moon and Chuck Liddell. These may be the most famous people I’ve seen at a pool party since I started paying attention this summer. This is a perfect group of semi-famous people for the meatheads that ECB is looking to attract. Stacy Keibler was even wearing a fedora, which is the hat of choice.

Either way, I love the pool party and learning who’s famous. I hope they never end, even when it gets “cold” in January. Check Vegas News for more pictures.

Updated: Encore Beach Club Opens

The Encore Beach Club opens this week to a lot of fanfare.  I thought the Wynn complex was stuffy when it first opened, but on my past two trips I didn’t find that to be the case.  In fact, I had a great time I had a great time gambling at Encore in December.

I don’t get too giddy with excitement when new joints in Las Vegas open, but there’s been a lot of people following it.  Here are my favorite places to get information about the opening of the Encore Beach Club as it happens.

Vegas Chatter and VC on Twitter. Update here.

Rate Vegas and Hunter on Twitter.

Vegas Tripping (where the picture below is from, thanks!) here and here and here.

There has been coverage everywhere, including the New York Times and Entertainment Tonight.

The Encore Beach club looks very well done.  Props to those covering for making a contrarian like me excited.  I’m sure it won’t be long before the Jersey Shore wannabe’s start making their move from Rehab and Wet to the EBC, but I’m sure that will be part of the fun.
