First Renderings and Plans For Alon Las Vegas

Alon Las Vegas will be the flagship location for Alon hotels. Alon is the hotel that’s planned for the space across the street from Wynn. You may remember that James Packer and Crown Holdings purchased the land across the street from Wynn last year but details beyond this being a luxury resort have been sparse. Details are still limited (there’s still no construction or opening time frame yet) but Fox 5 Las Vegas got some information yesterday. Here are some highlights:

Among the early renderings included in the application are plans for two towers that would have a total of 1,100 rooms.

One of those towers would be about half the height of the Trump tower, located directly to the west.

There was also a full layout of the property, including where the water feature, nightclub and villas would be located.

Alon issued the following statement on Thursday:

“Alon Leisure Management, LLC is a new leisure and hospitality company with a focus on developing one-of-a-kind luxury resorts. The destination of the company’s first project, Alon Las Vegas, is strategically located on the Las Vegas Strip and will contribute to the revitalization of the market.

“Alon Las Vegas is a gaming resort being developed on the historic Frontier site. As the flagship destination, Alon Las Vegas will set the creative tone and operating tempo for the company’s developments.

“‘Central to our vision for Alon is the careful consideration, creative exploration and uncompromising execution of the resort experience. We are building a team of seasoned industry operators, entrepreneurs and global designers who bring a fresh, new approach to what we think the future of Las Vegas should be,’ said Andrew Pascal, founder, CEO & co-chairman of Alon Leisure and Alon Las Vegas.

“Alon is envisioned to include approximately 1100 guest rooms and suites and will provide a full complement of integrated resort offerings. The project will generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs for Nevada residents.”

The first renderings aren’t very exciting but you get a better picture when you look at other Crown casinos in Australia. Here’s a look at Crown Promenade in Melbourne. (Shout out to @Vespajet for the heads up!)

Scientologist Moves From Cosmopolitan To North End Of Vegas Strip

The Frontier And Encore Las Vegas
The Frontier

Almost a year ago it was rumored that James Packer would be buying the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. Like many rumors in Las Vegas that turned out not to be true in the end. Packer might have been sniffing around Cosmo but didn’t end up making the purchase. Earlier this year the Cosmopolitan was sold to Blackstone.

Last week rumor had it that James Packer wasn’t done with Las Vegas when Bloomberg reported that James Packer is seeking a return to Las Vegas. Late last night and this morning those rumors were confirmed as James Packer purchased the land across the street from Wynn and  Wynn and Encore.

Australian billionaire James Packer said he has acquired controlling interest in a nearly 35-acre Strip land parcel and will form a company to build a hotel-casino on the site with former Wynn Las Vegas President Andrew Pascal and investment firm Oaktree Capital Management.

James Packer and Crown Resorts have a pretty bad history in Las Vegas. If he was making this plan alone I wouldn’t think that this new development on the New Frontier land would actually happen. His partnership with Andrew Pascal says that development is possible. Pascal was previously President at Wynn and is very respected in the casino community.

Details on what the property haven’t been released yet but they’re looking at a potential opening as soon as 2018. With the former president of Wynn involved it’s easy to guess the property will have good and fair gaming and will target a more upscale customer than average.

I’d love to see more development on the north end of the Vegas Strip but, like SLS Las Vegas, I’ll believe it when I see it. I look forward to seeing what comes from this. The more casinos on the Vegas Strip the merrier!

Like I said last time I wrote about him, I don’t care that James Packer is a scientologist it just makes for a fun headline and makes me giggle.
