Best And Worst Craps Odds On The Vegas Strip

Craps Table At Luxor
Craps Table At Luxor

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, craps is my favorite game in the casino. Besides being fun to play, craps gives the casino one of the smallest house edges’ most casino games. Fun game and small house edge?! That’s a perfect combination!

You can actually decrease the, already small, house edge by playing greater odds. The higher the odds played the less the house edge. Unfortunately, the Vegas Strip doesn’t really offer the diverse craps odds that you find in Downtown Vegas. Thankfully craps still has a tiny house edge no matter what the odds.

Here are the craps odds on the Vegas Strip along with the house edge for the casino for each game.

100x Odds
The Cromwell
House edge: Pass 0.021%, Don’t Pass 0.014%

10x Odds
Stratosphere
SLS Las Vegas
House edge: Pass 0.184%, Don’t Pass 0.124%

3x-4x-5x Odds
Every other casino not listed
House edge: Pass 0.374%, Don’t Pass 0.273%

2x Odds
Circus Circus
Encore
Wynn
House edge: Pass 0.572%, Don’t Pass 0.431%

3x-4x-5x are the normal odds offered at casinos on the Vegas Strip and just about everywhere else in the country. The house advantage playing maximum odds is still better than most games you’ll play in the casino.

Casino Royale has the best craps odds on the Vegas Strip but usually only has one table open so it’s difficult to get in on a game. The craps game at Casino Royale is one of the cheapest you’ll find on the strip with $5 or $10 minimums, so there’s that.

4/24/16 Update: The Cromwell has 100x odds up to $5,000. Table minimums are usually $5 or $10. (Thanks to @John_Mehaffy for confirming)

Bottom line with craps on the Vegas Strip – play wherever you want. The odds in most casinos are the same. If you’re looking for a good craps game with good odds head to Downtown Vegas. Here are my 3 favorite craps games in Downtown Vegas.

Note: Craps odds are from the Wizard of Vegas craps survey.

Learn How To Play Shoot To Win Craps

Shoot To Win Craps
PUSH THE BUTTON!

Shoot To Win Craps has grown on me over the years. When the game was first introduced it didn’t hold much appeal beyond a way to kill time. Even though I prefer the craps table game, I’m actually beginning to enjoy playing this game.

Shoot To Win Craps is growing in popularity on the casino floor for a couple of reasons. It’s inexpensive to play and it’s less intimidating than stepping up to a craps table.

Younger gamblers (millennials) like the game for both of the reasons above. However, most electronic table game players today are older players looking for a different machine game than slot machines and video poker.

G2E Preview: New Shuffle Master Games

3 Card Poker Bonus Bet At Caesars Casinos by Shuffle Master
3 Card Poker by Shuffle Master

Shuffle Master was rebranded as SHFL a couple of years ago but was purchased by Bally Technologies. Shortly after that acquisition Bally Technologies was purchased by Scientific Games. In the video below it seems as though Scientific Games has reverted to the old branding of Shuffle Master. Got it? Okay.

The video below shows a tease of new Shuffle Master table games that will debut at G2E. Shuffle Master controls most of the space on the casino floor that’s devoted to Carnival Games. They’re called Carnival Games mostly by traditionalists that grew up with blackjack, craps, roulette and slot machines occupying the casino floor.

Carnival Games are the newer casino games like 3 Card Poker, Mississippi Stud Poker and so on. It’s easier for a company like Shuffle Master to test a new game in place of one of their 3 Card Poker games, for example, than it is for a new manufacturer looking for extra space on the casino floor.

Do any of the titles in the preview below sound interesting? Leave a comment and I’ll try to get some information on that game.

I’ll get more information on the branding as we get closer to G2E but that’s not important right now.

Steve Wynn Just Said F U To Gamblers

Steve Wynn Is The Worst Person In The World On MSNBC
Steve Wynn Is The Worst Person In The World

An oldie but a goodie above.

On last week’s Wynn Resorts earnings call Steve Wynn went into a long discussion of how Wynn Las Vegas is adjusting their casino floor to maximize revenue. Here’s an excerpt of the call from Vegas Hotel News.

I also rearranged the floor in the casino to put our specialty games that are very popular with the public – that have a higher margin – and I put them in the hundred percent location. And I moved my games with less of a margin to secondary locations. Those changes have worked out favorably to us in the past three weeks, and that kind of re-examination… our slot floor has been re-done. We win more money with less games now. These are some of the reasons why we make more money than anybody else in Las Vegas.

You can read the full segment on gambling at Wynn from the Wynn Resorts earnings call from Vegas Hotel News.

Every business has the right to maximize their earnings potential. At the same time every customer has the right to take their money elsewhere.

I haven’t gambled at Wynn in almost a year and I don’t see myself returning any time soon. The emphasis on 6:5 blackjack, 2x craps (info on Vegas Chatter), poor video poker pay tables and the focus on prominently featuring games with a high house edge really isn’t of interest to me.

I’ve always liked gambling at Wynn and especially Encore. While I’m looking forward to the renovations at Encore (details on Travel Vegas) and I love dining at SW Steakhouse I’m not sure I want to support Steve Wynn any time soon.

Craps Bets To Avoid: Big 6 & Big 8

Avoid These Craps Bets
Avoid These Craps Bets: Big 6 And Big 8

You probably know that I love craps. It’s my favorite casino game. Craps also happens to have some of the best odds in the casino if you make the right bets. Unfortunately for most gamblers the craps table is littered with bad bets so I want to let you know (or remind you) about two craps bets to avoid.

Two of the silliest bad bets on the craps table are the Big 6 and Big 8 bets. These bets each pay even money ($5 wins $5, $10 wins $10, $25 wins $25, etc.) if someone rolls a 6 or 8, respectively. This bet has a house advantage of 9% for the casino.

A couple of inches away you can “place” the 6 or 8 and get paid $7 for every $6 bet if someone rolls either number. This bet has a house advantage of 1.5% for the casino.

You probably won’t see many people betting the Big 6 or the Big 8 the next time you’re at a craps table and this is why. If you’re new to craps these are two bets to avoid. You might as well place the 6 or 8 if those bets pay you better.

Making this smart bet at the craps table doesn’t take any effort or take away any fun (it’s fun to yell “gimme a hard 8”) so hit some good numbers, get paid and have fun!

First Impressions Of SLS Las Vegas

SLS Las Vegas Carpet
SLS Las Vegas Carpet

My first impression of SLS Las Vegas is positive but not perfect. Nothing is perfect as far as I’m concerned. I’ve already detailed some of the flaws from the first few days of business in a separate post.

1. The Setup

The pre-opening moniker SLS Las Vegas used to describe the property was “affordable luxury”. That set up for the hotel to be fancy on a budget. For example there’s no way to make Ikea furniture feel luxurious but it can look nice. With that in mind I went in with limited expectations.

2. Casino Layout

SLS Las Vegas Casino
SLS Las Vegas Casino

I care more about the casino than most of SLS Las Vegas. The floor plan is only 60,000 square feet. If you ever visited Sahara this is 20,000 square feet less. The floor plan is small, which is fine but there are choke points that make it almost impossible to go to certain parts of the casino. The high traffic walkway by table area near the players club and The Griddle is tight and will always be busy. There are similar choke points on the slot floor that will be impossible to walk through because machines are packed so closely. Just scope out areas before sitting down at a table or machine.

Layout aside there are ample 3:2 blackjack games for $5 and $10. Craps has $10 minimums. There is decent video poker and all new slot machines. I dig all of this and wouldn’t mind gambling here. US Poker has a breakdown of most of the games.

Parts of the casino floor seem dark and that can make the tight casino feel almost claustrophobic on busy nights. This feels like a casino I’d visit during the day more than at night.

3. Umami Burger – Sportsbook – Beer Garden

Umami Burger Entrance At SLS Las Vegas
Umami Burger Entrance

This is the part of the casino I was most looking forward to. A sportsbook that serves good burgers and good beer? This might be heaven. It is and it isn’t. This isn’t a sportsbook.

Umami Burger a sports bar/restaurant with a patio and a place to bet on sports. Burger prices are between $12 and $15. Not too bad for the Vegas Strip. Draft beers are around $9-10 and bottles start at $5. There are no drink tickets from William Hill for sports bets as of opening but I think that will change. If you drink/eat at the video poker bar your drinks will be comp’d while you have money in play.

I really like this as a restaurant. Like I said in Vegas Chatter this is a good sports bar/restaurant but it’s not a traditional sportsbook. It should be packed with sports fans for big events but expect to see kids and families in the mix on other days. Even thought it’s not a traditional sportsbook this is my favorite spot at SLS Las Vegas.

Note, you can still sit and watch games without spending any money. However, if there are paying customers for Umami Burger you’ll politely be asked to leave if you’re not spending money.

4. Dining and High Priced Drinks

Gamble With Asteroids, Centipede And Other Atari Games

Atari Casino
Hey, It’s The Atari Casino

It looks as if the Atari Casino will be launching online in just a few months. The casino will offer gambling for real and virtual currency.  Atari Casino will be considered a social gaming platform since gambling is a dirty word more than simply an online casino. The casino will available on the Web, as well as Facebook and mobile devices.

Even though I never owned an Atari video game system when I was growing up (I was a ColecoVision guy) I played their games way too often. Older brands like Atari are a link to my childhood and that’s what they’re is banking on to acquire players.

The idea of gambling online isn’t very attractive to me because I prefer gambling with some form of human interaction. Having said that I might consider playing craps, slot machines or blackjack at the Atari Casino if it’s branded with Centipede, Missile Command or Asteroids for a little while. This might not be Atari’s only gambling play. Last year at G2E I reported that IGT was re-introducing skill-based gaming with a Centipede branded slot machine for Vegas Chatter. We shouldn’t expect to see anything in casinos until next year. Photo: Engadget

Looks Like Blackjack Is Coming To MyVegas Mobile

MyVegas Mobile
MyVegas

A couple of days ago I found a survey from MyVegas that asks a lot of questions about playing blackjack on mobile devices.

MyVegas Survey
MyVegas Survey – Blackjack Mobile

If blackjack was an available on MyVegas mobile I would give it a whirl. Right now I play blackjack on my mobile devices with the ODDcase blackjack training app. It looks great, reminds me when I make a bad move and helps me keep count of the cards. If there was an aesthetically appealing option for MyVegas I’d give it a whirl.

It also looks like MyVegas is even contemplating adding more table games to the Facebook version of MyVegas.

MyVegas Table Game Options
MyVegas Table Game Options

When I play MyVegas on Facebook I usually just let the slot machine games run in the background on another tab and check in to see if I have a bonus round to activate. When I’m bored with my day I’ll fire up blackjack. If any of the other games in this survey were available, besides roulette, I’d give it a whirl.

There are some open-ended table game questions and I recommended that they add craps. I’m guessing it’s difficult to create an exact replica of a craps game based on true odds and that’s why it was left off of the survey.

There’s nothing official about new games for MyVegas yet. This is just speculation for based on the MyVegas survey. Here are some quick links for you.
