A Look At The Renovated Red Rock Sports Book

I’ve been posting pictures and updates on the renovation of the Red Rock sports book as it’s been happening here and on twitter, instagram and facebook. Unlike some other recent sports book renovations this was mainly a television screen upgrade. Boy is this an upgrade.

Even at 20% brightness the new screens at the Red Rock sports book are the brightest and clearest screens you’ll find in any Vegas sports book.

The comparison I’ve heard most from the pictures I’ve posted are that they look like The Venetian sports book screens. The Venetian is generally lauded as having the best screens in Las Vegas. I’ll go out on a limb and say The Venetian screens are the second best now and here’s why.

The new 2.5mm NanoSlim LED displays are the largest of their kind in North America. They replace the rear projection systems that were installed when Red Rock Resort opened. The 2.5mm space between pixels offers almost twice the clarity of the old 4mm pixel spacing.

All three of the 17′ x 31.5′ screen use 4K Ultra HD technology and can each be configured to display screens in 45 different ways. That number can and will increase.

Here’s a look at what a typical afternoon at the Red Rock sports book will look like. Notice how the lines are displayed since it’s a slow day.

When seasons change and there’s a need to show lines for football, baseball, basketball and hockey the configurations can be changed quickly so you don’t have to wait for rotating boards only showing limited lines. This will be great in the winter.

When there are nights with standalone football games the screens can be changed from showing multiple games to one big 17 x 31 foot TV. You could probably see this display from the Vegas Strip if it were outside. Check out that middle screen.

The next photo is kind of blurry on purpose (not really but it makes my point). The scroll at the bottom of the screens is huge and easy to read while the fonts used for the lines are smaller and a little more difficult to read unless you have good vision or are close to the screens. The size isn’t bad but it’s something that stood out to me.

As I mentioned earlier this was only a viewing upgrade. The seat configuration remains the same with 75% of the seats being chairs and desks while 25% are comfy lounge chairs. I’d prefer the seating to be the other way but the Red Rock sports book still gets a lot of people betting on the ponies.

Summary

The new screens at the Red Rock sports book are the best you’ll find in Las Vegas. I live right down the street so and my opinion for this sports book may have a little bias.

While The Venetian may offer the best screens on the Vegas Strip but I can’t vouch for it being the best sports book since you probably won’t get a seat during football season unless you’re set up with a CG Technology account and bet with them while you’re watching games.

For comparison 98% of the seating at the Red Rock sports book is open to anyone who visits. The 2% is saved for VIP guests and higher tier Boarding Pass players club members.

The Mirage sports book is great but the clarity of their screens can’t be compared with Red Rock. When Westgate unveils their new sports book screens I’m told they will be similar but not as good as the Red Rock setup.

I’ve been recommending the Red Rock sports book to people even when the screens needed updating. Now that the screens have been upgraded I think the Red Rock sports book is easily one of the best sports books in Vegas. Easily.

Total Rewards Should Be Fine When Caesars Files For Bankruptcy

Total Rewards Cards
Old School Total Rewards Cards

Caesars Entertainment has planned their bankruptcy for January. They’re still shuffling (or unshuffling) the deck chairs as they restructure their financials. As a customer you shouldn’t worry about reservations, Total Rewards or most business operations.

Caesars spokesman Gary Thompson couldn’t comment on the debt restructuring efforts but said that, if the company does go through bankruptcy, there wouldn’t be any change in the way properties are run. He said the Total Rewards program would remain intact as well.

This should be true. When Station Casinos emerged from bankruptcy back in 2011 their Boarding Pass players club remained in tact. The restructuring may have changed which properties the parent company owned but it didn’t affect most of the operations. If anything it’s safe to think that Total Rewards will change after bankruptcy like Boarding Pass did but it won’t just go away.

Things won’t be the same when Caesars emerges from bankruptcy but, based on this previous casino bankruptcy case, you shouldn’t have to rush and cash in your Total Rewards points.

If you take the Caesars spokesman at his word (you probably shouldn’t as it’s his job to spin things positively for his company) you have nothing to worry about with your Total Rewards account. That said, this isn’t guaranteed and Caesars has a fairly sketchy reputation (i.e. “we’re charging resort fees because you asked for them”).

If you’re concerned with your points then you should use them. If you’d like to use your Total Rewards points but can’t make it to a casino you can now use them to buy various non-casino related items. See more info here.

It’s The App That Does Everything You Want

Station Casinos App Ad

In April I wrote a review about the new Station Casinos app for Vegas Chatter. I’ve written a lot of app reviews and I can usually find additional features that will make an app more user-friendly. The Station Casinos app really blew me away simply because it had just about everything a Vegas casino app should have. As I told a friend, you’d be surprised how many Vegas casino apps are completely useless.

Rebecca, the big dawg at Vegas Chatter, sent me a heads up on Saturday that Station Casinos used a quote from the post in their June mailer. This is the first time I’ve seen a business use words from an article I’ve written in their marketing materials. I’m stoked about this so I just wanted to share.

Download the STN App for free to see for yourself. It’s best used when you have a Boarding Pass players club account.

Check out the post about the STN App on Vegas Chatter.

Free $25 Bet When You Sign Up For Station Casinos Sports Betting Account

Sports Connection App From Station Casinos

I was bouncing around my Station Casinos App (Vegas Chatter review here, the app is great) and noticed a promotion for a free $25 sports bet when you sign up for a Sports Connection mobile sports betting account. I don’t love the lines and point spreads from Station Casinos (especially for baseball) but I do like how the app connects with the Boarding Pass players club. Sue me, I like that can get some extra players club points from my sports betting. Those “free” cups of Starbucks are nice.

Since you only have to deposit $50 in the account to get this bonus you’re looking at a pretty sweet deal. I wish they had this kind of incentive when I first signed up. If you’re not looking to make Station Casinos one of your regular sports betting outlets in Vegas then this sounds like a good way to grab a free swing at a college or pro football futures bet.

William Hill Unveils “Summer Rewards″ Promotion For Mobile Sports Customers

One of the benefits of using the Station Casinos Sports Connection app to place sports bets is the ability to link the money you spend through the app to your Boarding Pass players club account. You may not get a drink ticket when you bet with your mobile device but you earn points that may be used a drink (or more) at one of the restaurants at a Station Casino. None of the other sports betting apps had this kind of players club/rewards connection until this week.

While William Hill doesn’t have the same players club connection as Station Casinos they’re now offering cash back bonuses if you bet with your mobile device this summer. Straight cash (homey) is probably better than players club points. I’ll be signing up for this later.

Here are the details on the promotion from the press release.

William Hill Race & Sports Book is offering a major new summer incentive program for customers who make their sports wagers using the William Hill Mobile Sports app. With the new “Summer Rewards” promotion, customers can unlock cash rewards up to $100 when wagering with William Hill on their smartphone or tablet.

The promotion is open to all Mobile Sports customers who enroll on the William Hill US website (www.williamhill.us) between May 5 and August 5. Once enrolled, customers will receive 1 Summer Rewards point for every $1 of sports wagers and double Summer Rewards points for InPlay sports wagers placed through the app during the promotion.

InPlay sports wagering allows bettors to bet the game during the game with LIVE point spreads, totals and money lines. William Hill InPlay Sports wagering is offered this summer for all pro basketball playoff games, select baseball games and soccer matches.

On August 15, enrolled Mobile Sports patrons will automatically receive $1 added to their account balance for every 1,000 Summer Rewards points earned between May 5 and August 5.

“With the NBA and NHL playoffs heating up and the World Cup just around the corner, we are very excited to launch a cashback promotion for sports bettors who enjoy the convenience of wagering on a smartphone or tablet,” said William Hill Director of Marketing Michael Grodsky. “InPlay wagering has been wildly popular and we wanted to make it doubly rewarding for our patrons that like wagering on live odds during the games.”

As an added incentive to new William Hill Mobile Sports customers, a new account registered between May 5 and August 5, 2014 will receive a bonus 5,000 Summer Rewards points with their first qualifying wager.

The William Hill Mobile Sports wagering app is available for iPhone, iPad, or Android devices carried by AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile or Boost Mobile. New accounts can be registered at any of the 76 full-service William Hill sports books throughout Nevada. Accounts can also be funded at any PT’s or Sierra Gold Tavern location in the state.
