Favorite Downtown Vegas Casinos (2012)

THE D (photo haute living)

The D used to be called Fitzgerald’s but has been renovated this year. The Fitz was kind of a gnarly old casino with a McDonalds. I was not a fan. Now that the casino is the D there is a whole new life here.

The D is the only 2 floor casino in Las Vegas and that makes for an awesome time. If I’m in the mood for a lively, energetic, loud night at the casino the first floor with 10x craps is perfect. They have 3:2 blackjack (dealt from a shoe), but most of those tables are Continuous Shuffle Machines (CSM). I hate those machines and prefer not to play blackjack here.

The Second floor is much more relaxed. The music is more mellow so you can actually have a conversation with people but this is also where the good video poker games are. You can throw $20 down the drain with Sigma Derby.

The vibe here is awesome and the casino has a lot of space. The 10x odds on craps is perfect for a raging night of dice n booze.

FREEMONT

I don’t love the Fremont Casino but it’s located right in the middle of Fremont street which makes it a good spot for more low brow gambling.

Their $3 craps is awful as they only allow 2x odds. That said they have 3:2 blackjack and low limits on all games.

If you’re a drinker they have $2 Heineken, Corona, Jagermeister and margarita’s. If you’re an east coaster, you’ll appreciate the Dunkin Donuts. If you’re an East Coast Gambler you don’t mind throwing back a few Corona’s and playing $5 Pai Gow, you’ll probably enjoy this place enough to visit often.

Last but not least the Fremont is a B-Connected casino so comps are good at any of the many Boyd Casinos.

I haven’t gambled at Main Street Station because it’s not on any path I walk when I’m on Fremont Street but a number of you tell me I’ll love it because of the good odds gambling and 777 brews. I’ll get there eventually, but odds are that I’ll be at El Cortez or The D next time I head downtown to gamble.
